Brains, beauty and a little bit bouji… Yep. That about sums me up!
I’ve been wanting to start a book club for a long time but after putting a few feelers out on snapchat and Facebook, I shelved (no pun intended) the idea as I got little to no interest. I’ve always loved books and have been an avid reader for most of my life. We live in a digital age now with more and more of traditional offline media (newspapers, magazines, tv stations) moving online. Physical book reading (as in hard copy not kindle) is almost a dying pastime. I spend roughly £100 almost every month on books of various topics from Chinese philosophy, to Egyptian history, to fantasy, fiction, psychology studies and everything in between. I love bookshops, libraries, book cover art, author bios and read forwards 90% of the time. I love the touch and smell of new books (not so much old – I’m a bit of a germ-o-phobe) and have always dreamt of having an in house library. I even buy paperbacks and then, if I absolutely love the book, I will seek out a collectable or hard copy version for my would-be dream library.
Despite these lofty dreams however, somehow life got in the way of my dedicated reading time this year. No matter how good my intentions, no matter how many books I bought, I still did not find the time to actually read them. Lately I have begun to see the effects of not reading often such as second guessing my grammar and the inability to concentrate for long periods without difficulty. If like me you are looking to step your reading game up a notch, leave a comment below and let me know how many hours a day/ week you’re reading, what you’re reading and any recommendations you have for me!
Also Going forward, I will aim to post new book purchases frequently and either review once I’ve read them or let you know my motivation behind purchase if I’m yet to read. If you have read any of the above books – let me know your thoughts. Let’s have a conversation in the comments section on something other than hair and clothes, because whilst I am fully into all that, I’m also into other stuff too. I want my blog to be a reflection of my many interests and dimensions as a person, because just like you, I’m multi faceted; I have layers Yo! 😛
