Birthday’s are such an incredibly stressful time for me. You feel an overwhelming sense of pressure from all angles. Everyone wants you to celebrate in spectacular style and of course they all want to be invited. You are another year older and subsequently you do the mental checklist of the achievements and successes of your existence thus far (or, in my case, lack thereof). And then there’s the biggest pressure of all – Finding the perfect birthday outfit. This is always such a monumental task simply because you want to look like the princess you are without channeling a Disney cartoon character. On this day, you absolutely MUST be the bell of the ball.

Also, your birthday is the one day out of the year where you want to feel like the most beautiful, most popular, most loved person in the world. Second to your wedding day, this is the one day a year when it is solely about you and people should make an absolute fuss.

But I hate fuss. And so yesterday I had a quiet dinner at one of my favourite restaurants (They do the best risotto) and invited a handful of my nearest and dearest to gorge on champagne and cake with me afterwards. I channeled American Hustle siren with a metallic wrap dress with plunging neckline. I particularly love how comfortable this dress is and the detail around the waist disguises any after dinner bulge nicely! Plus it was shiny which fits with “Its-my-birthday-and-i-am-a-princess” theme!

Thanks to those who came from near and far to make me feel special on my birthday. It’s taken many years to get here, but my circle is solid and I am thankful that I am surrounded by love.

Next year however (and every year thereafter), I WILL be celebrating my birthday abroad! 😛
