I’ve made no secret of my love of 90’s cult movie Clueless and the impact it has had on my sense of style. I’ve even used the movie for outfit inspo in a previous post. I adore cute, preppy outfits and live in jeans and heels for work (alternating between shirt and blazer combo’s). Styling bold and/ or multiple colours can sometimes be challenging as it’s all too easy to look as though you’ve tried too hard. A trick I use when wearing bright colours is to keep the overall look simple to allow the colour itself to make the statement.
Now that Spring is finally here, we can ditch the dark, winter palette and breakout more colourful hues. Working in fashion full time and blogging can sometimes, unknowingly, influence us to the point where we lose touch with our individual style. It’s so easy to get swept away in what’s currently trending and before you know it you’re lost in a sea of all white, minimal everything with marble accents with no lifeboat. I try not to succumb to trends and operate on the modus that if everyone else has it, I don’t want it. Of course there will be exceptions to this rule – but for the most part, I try to seek out new brands, new places to shop (which you will start to see a lot more of on this blog). Most importantly though, I try to retain my own sense of style which is why I love this outfit as it sums up my individual style perfectly; Classic with a fun twist. Blogging is now such a saturated industry that it is becoming increasingly more difficult to stand out and get noticed. However, I truly believe that there is room for everyone so long as you be yourself and remain true to who you are. Once you find your authentic voice and original style you will soon realise that there is no other blogger quite like you… And when you think about it, that’s exactly how blogging originated anyway right?
I personally have always felt a bit like a fish out of water when it comes to the blogging community. I am a full time professional, older than a lot of the new bloggers springing up and yet younger than the wave of original super bloggers or mummy bloggers out there. I’m really not that experimental with hair and makeup and have super
lazy simple routines for grooming overall. I’m in this scary transitional place of buying a house and getting married and planning to start a family… it’s not the typical blogger content that make brands want to beat down your door to collaborate. Similarly, I’m in a space where I won’t partner with just any brand. I need to truly love and believe in a brand or product to promote them – paid for otherwise. Whilst blogging is a business, there must be truth and integrity to the craft. Which brings me neatly to these amazing wedges by Sergio Rossi. Probably one of my fave shoe designers, I have slowly but surely been growing a collection of their footwear over the years. Perhaps not as well known as Louboutin, Webster or Choo yet definitely holds their own against such noted designers. I’m a sucker for italian made footwear and so pleased to have come across these kick ass pair of wedges which are funky yet functional and oh so comfortable. Can’t wait for summer to arrive so that I can really go to town in these bad boys.
